Project Title :
Sewage Treatment Plant at Taman Boulder Built, Kuching
Project Background :
This project is located in Taman Boulder Built, Kota Padawan, southwest of the Kuching town. It is accessible via Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong. The purpose of this project is to refurbish the existing sewage treatment plant which fails to function properly. The effluent from the proposed plant shall achieve the Standard A requirement.
The housing developer of Taman Boulder Built constructed an EA Activated Sludge Sewage Treatment Plant was built in 1986. It was designed to serve 2000 population equivalent. The treatment plant consisted of aeration tank, settling tank, aerobic digestion tank, sludge drying bed and polishing ponds. Over the years of operation, this treatment plant failed could not achieve the required effluent standard.
In year 2000, Majlis Perbandaran Padawan replaced the plant with a FRP Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant. It was designed to serve 600 population equivalent. This package treatment plant was an extended aeration system with secondary clarifier and sludge concentration tank. This temporary package plant has been damaged by floods and could not perform efficiently to achieve the required effluent standard.
Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, the Federal Government approved the allocation to upgrade the plant. The proposed upgrading works cost is RM2 million. The contract period is 9 months.
